About
Hi! I’m Toby, a 2D and 3D game art student based in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I have a passion for storytelling, art, and crafting immersive experiences. I’m currently studying to develop my skills as an artist, leader, and game developer.
When I’m not designing or brainstorming ideas, I enjoy exploring creative projects, learning new skills, or just simply playing a game. I’m always looking for ways to grow both professionally and personally every day.
Feel free to check out my work and reach out if you’d like to collaborate or chat!

Blender Render
Unity Render
This was the final project from my first year Game Engine class. It is a model of a 81-740/741 train that I had to re-create from an assigned reference image. The goal of the assignment was to create a looping environment within Unity. I made the model within Blender and textured it in Substance Painter.

For this project the goal was to create a fully functional and polished Title Screen within Unity. All of the 3D assets were made by myself in Blender, and they were textured in Substance Painter. I originally wanted to implement this into my other project, "Cybercitic", but we ran out of time.

Full Playthrough
This was a project that I worked on with a programmer from our sister course. Together we created an upgrade game over the course of 11 weeks using a biweekly sprint-based workflow. I created all of the 2D and 3D assets visible in the game, and also helped with sound design.

For this project, my main goal was to learn Blockbench and fully design, model, rig, and animate a character. I went with something slightly higher poly than the average Blockbench model
but I am happy with how it turned out. I also used this character in Cybercitic, though not in 3D.

This is an illustration I made for my Fine Arts certificate program. I made this in Clip Studio Paint while I still had my old intuos drawing tablet.
Character Sprites and Boat
Water and Grass Tileset
I was initially in a team with two students from the Game Programming course in this game jam, but we all got too busy with finals and had to drop out. Despite that, I made some stuff that I was proud of while we were still in it.

This is a character model that I made for my Game Engine class. This project had the goal of teaching us the basics of rigging and animation in Blender, while also making a fun PS1 style character. The character is based on a reference that I drew last year and I touched up the textures in Aseprite. I am pretty happy with how the animations turned out and I learned a lot about rigging in the process.
This project was the final for both my Game Asset and Game Engine classes. The goal was to create an engine-ready character complete with rigging, shapekeys, and animation. I made everything in Blender and used the Ucupaint addon to create the textures. There were a lot of learning curves involved with creating this character, like having to deal with getting multiple layers of clothing to follow the original body skin weighting. Overall I think it turned out well and I am very proud of it.
Character Implemented Into Unity with Shape Key Expressions
This was what I made for my 3D Software class. I wanted to create three hand-painted props in Blender using Ucupaint, which I had not used before. I referenced games like Sea of Thieves to try and figure out the general shape that I wanted my props to have, and I had to learn how to paint textures onto 3D models with no prior experience. I am happy with how the props turned out.
This was a small personal project I made for a weekly challege set up by one of my teachers. I was working on my weapon set at the time and wanted to make an extra prop using the same workflow. I also learned how to create a simple weapon swipe effect in Blender.
This was a game that me and four other classmates worked on for our Game Dev class. I was the project manager and a supporting artist for the group. We had 3 months to create a local co-op game that was fun and feature complete. There were plenty of unforseen challenges during development but we still managed to create a finished product despite that. The main art related things I made for this game were the character designs, models, and animations along with some VFX and extra UI elements.
